Efficient Information Processing
Submitted by Mgr. Milena Janáková Ph.D. on Mon, 11/30/2009 - 15:36
The modern multicultural environment has been supplying us with more and more information all the time. The ability to process information technology products ranks among general skills. In accordance with these abilities there are skills that must continually be developed in view of new trends and needs. These skills are often referred to as soft ones and they are useful for everybody. Some of them include e. g. the ability of efficient communication, flexibility in solving problems, coping with loads of information, an individual approach to dealing with information. As for the efficient processing of information available on the Internet, standard information processing procedures can be applied. At first, sources dealing with a particular issue should functionally be searched and analyzed. It could seem as waste of time, but the reverse is true. While processing information on the Internet, it is necessary to select web pages according to their specialization and in comprehensible form. We usually utilize only part of the information. To do this, we need to get general knowledge of the issue and to understand the interrelation. A standard printed document in the form of a study text or a textbook can be a useful aid in this respect. While processing a standard text in a textbook or university textbook, we highlight relevant information or we use other graphic effects. While processing information on the Internet, procedures for copying and pasting text are usually applied. In this connection we must remember the general principles of authorial ethics[1]. An essential part of these principles is the necessity to publish correct information and to quote the authors. The Internet is a dynamic medium and an abundant source of information of various quality and validity. In view of the correctness, it is appropriate to focus on the sources that have a distinctly stated author, date of commencement or update and that offer the possibility of the reader[1] feedback. You can get more confidence in dealing with information in an active way by your own reproduction of newly acquired knowledge. It is essential to interpret the subject matter on the basis of preparing your own formulations which will appropriately express our skills and expectations. In connection with skills and expectations, utilizing the Internet in an active way leads to developing creative abilities, texts are accompanied by multimedia simulations and they can be perceived by sight or by hearing to remember them better, work is interactive and we usually know the result of our communication or simulation immediately, the rhythm of work adjusts to our needs or dispositions. The contemporary world demands quick and flexible solutions. To achieve them, classical methods of work are used together with modern procedures incorporating visual simulations. These methods include e. g. a direct method based on repetition and intuition, or a suggestopedic method consistently employing all senses. Regularity and the selected style of preparation are appreciable aspects. Functional information processing is supported by a suitable choice of computer technology and software. Each of us can activate a text editor, create web pages or process [2]data in MS Excel. The ability to define our own database or create simulation instruction rank among useful skills. Most information systems users are aware of the irreplaceable role of system data organization supported by database processing. Database processing applies a number of easy and user friendly environments in order to achieve a high-quality check of registered data. Products available on the Internet are activated with an advantage. Such products include Oracle Application Express or Oracle Enterprise Manager, available on web pages apex.oracle.com and www.oracle.com/technology. These systems use flexible and efficient methods for managing information and the proposed application and they are supported by intuitive application. For instance the database system Oracle utilizes the grid computing principle used in architecture for creating flexible information systems. The user does not have to be familiar with this issue. The benefit consists in the availability of intuitive navigation while utilizing web pages and pre-defined references for activating the needed adjustment or the variation. Simulation instructions represent efficient way of dealing with frequent student and user questions by means of a aided and updated software package. While selecting the appropriate software product it is necessary to consider the extent of support of intuitive control and the integration of e-learning applications. There are a lot of commercial and freely available solutions such as Free Screen Recorder, AVI Screen Capture or Adobe Captivate. For creating teaching material, Power Point environment can be suitable as well. Useful skills include stacking objects and our own animation such as adding a highlighting effect or ways of movement. Clip arts, images and photos rank among other features enlivening a presentation. An efficient way of activating a presentation is an automatic run requiring the correct setting of displaying objects and the timing of the transition from one image to another one. Compared to the PowerPoint product, the benefit of animation in an Adobe Captivate environment is obvious considering the need to teach students to work with a computer programme. The Adobe Captivate output can easily integrate commentaries, text descriptions or recorded video sequences. The resulting applications utilize the format that guarantees a high quality of output and enables using a standard browser for playback. The methodology for creating multimedia simulation is determined by an undemanding sequence of activities: loading the implemented action of the selected programme, editing loading, generating the resulting file and activating the multimedia simulation by the browser. The information processing procedure covers a broad area of interest. There is a number of instructions and recommendations. Everybody can choose according to his or her preferences, dispositions and interest. In conclusion I would like to mention the following nine tips from the study called the Future of Work written by the Xerox company specialists: - - Take a deep breath. - Simplify your schedule. - Back up data. - Clear your work surface. - Work with a piece of information only once. - Forget about free information. - Use your own tools. - Use RSS. - Cope with mobile phone hysteria.
