How to obtain specialized qualification in the chosen field

    Regarding the fact that the graduate from general field of Faculty of Medicine cannot work by him/herself, he must pass post-graduating specialized education in the chosen field. The list of fields can be found on the pages of IPVZ.

    Here you find some instructions what steps should be taken after graduating from Faculty of Medicine. 

    How to obtain specialized  qualification in the chosen field:

    1. Once being employed ask to be registered into specialization field - see Application for registration into specialization field on the website (www.mzcr.cz  or www.ipvz.cz). The application is to be sent together with annexes to Ministry of Health, Division for science and education, Palackého 4, 128 01 Praha 2 .

     2. After that you will be attending the chosen educational programme being sent to you together with expertness pass (index) and possibly logbook to record asked operations by Ministry of Health. There is obligation to attend obligatory practice, to do asked amount of operations and attend obligatory trainings.

     3. After accomplishing all of requirements you can apply for attestation.

    Once graduating from Faculty of Medicine do not forget to register at the Czech Medical Chamber - all doctors working within prevention care - it means they have to be together with patients members of profession's association - Czech Medical Chamber. http://www.clk.cz/

    Since 1. 7. 2005 specialized qualification can be obtained only according to the Act No. 95/2004 Sb. and implementing regulations and relevant educational programmes, i.e.:

    • To pass attestation according to the relevant educational programme
    • Attestations are proceeded according to the public notice N..395/2004 Sb. And approved educational programmes
    • all applicants who met all educational programme requirements and submit the application form will be allowed to attend attestation
    • applications for attestations should be sent to study department of IPVZ, Ruská 85, 100 05 Praha 10 always up to 30 June for autumn terms and up to 15 January for spring terms of attestation exams.

    Public notice No. 395/2004 Sb.  of 24. 6. 2004 - by which examination rules of attestation exams and approval exam for doctors, dentists and pharmacists are provided.  This public notice regulates in compliance with the European law the content, process and evaluating of

    a) attestation exams to obtain specialized qualification for doctors, dentists and pharmacists

    b) approbation exams to obtain professional qualification for doctors, dentists and pharmacists within the Czech Republic  if doctors, dentists and pharmacists have obtained the qualification to operate outside the European Union. 

    Institute of postgraduate education in health (IPVZ) provides the activities connected to specializing education, registration into the fields, registration of applicants and organization for the Ministry of Health

    Educational programmes for doctors, dentists and pharmacists as well as specializing content can be found on IPVZ website (http://www.ipvz.cz) or (http://www.mzcr.cz).

    COMMON BASe includes the part of obligatory practice common for more fields.

    Common base is determined for internal fields (24 months), for surgical fields (24 months), for pediatric fields (36 months), for radiological fields (36 months), for pathological fields (24 months), for hygienic fields (12 mibths) see Specialization fields.

    Specialization education starts with common base and its attending is the condition to entry further parts of specialization training. Its finalization is based on practice and operations evaluation made by trainer and successful graduation of the obligatory course and test. Graduating from common base makes transferring to other specialization in the particular group of fields easier and during a gaining other specialization is acknowledged automatically. Department organizing the course of common base is the one who considers the fulfillment of common base.

    Doctors fulfilled the conditions of common base can apply for the course being organized by particular department of IPVZ at the end of the course.

    Accredited offices in the Czech Republic are appointed gradually; list of them can be found on www.mzcr.cz akreditace and is updated continuously.  

    The whole practice accordant with educational programme is counted in regardless of the date of enlistment into the field including the practice within the previous specialization. That is why the backward credits are not issuing. If the doctor is not sure about whether the practice would be accounted or not in the whole or only the part, he can ask for practice evaluation. 

    Form of "Application for professional practice evaluation of attestation for doctors" can be submitted by the doctor within the whole preparation to attestation.

    If  the doctor is not practicing the profession longer than 5 years, he is obligated to train himself immediately after he starts the job. The training should be in range of min 60 days under the guidance of the doctor with particular specialization. Directorial doctor issues record about the proceeding and finalizing of the training into index or issues confirmation (see law No. 95/2004 Sb. § 6).

    According to the law No. 95/2004 Sb. § 5, paragraph 4 specialized education is proceeded by all-day training form in accordance with the determined weekly working hours or by external training which could be cut to max in half. 

    If the working hours are cut training is extended proportionately.

    Specializing courses and specializing trainee-ships (pre-attestation) are valid for 5 years.

    Currently: REGULATION: of 23 June 2008 about the fields of specializing education of the doctors, dentist and pharmacists in Annex 1 there are 82 specializing fields listed; the time of preparation  lasts from 4 years  (e.g. general practitioner) up to 8 years (children's urology) -see website
